If those crappy little, unrealistic, out-of-scale highway signs are starting to get on your nerves, you’ve come to the right place. Here we have produced, in HO scale, the actual signs as specified by the Department of Transportation. Colors, printing and symbols all conform to the standard as specified in the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and its companion volume the Standard Highway Signs (SHS).

We have 2 versions of the signs for you:

  • The Image Source Files Download contains the actual images in png format, so you may re-scale them without loss of detail. You get one image of each sign, and each image is already scaled for HO. These may be dropped into word processing documents or art programs multiple times to build up sheets of the images you want.

  • The Street Signs Sheet is a pdf with multiple (usually 10) copies of each image arranged on an 8 1/2″ X 11″ page which you may print, then cut out the signs you want.

The download comes to you as a zip file. Your browser may request your permission before proceeding with the download. Save the download to a directory of your choosing. Then navigate to the folder you used, right-click the zip file, and choose “Extract.” By default, a new folder with the same name as the zip will be created within the same folder as the zip file itself, and your images will be inside the new folder. (Optionally, you may select a different folder for the images if you prefer). Note: the specific procedure may vary among different kinds of computers.

When you print the images, use the highest available print quality, which is often called something like “High Quality Photo.” For the best appearance on paper, use glossy photo type paper.

You may also save any of the display images appearing below; but the saved image will neither be at the correct scale, nor will it be high resolution (images below are in jpg format).

We will be adding more images as time permits, but if there are any you would like
to see soon, just send an email to jsgeare@yahoo.com
